In March 2026, five men from Global Compassion Ministries traveled to Nairobi, Africa, for approximately two and a half weeks. One of our main objectives was to verify that the Kids Against Hunger food being sent to various ministries throughout the country was reaching those who needed it and was being distributed and used as intended.

To our amazement, we discovered that the food was reaching far beyond what we had anticipated and was benefiting many different ministries. During our time in Nairobi, we visited two ministries each day. While there, we had the opportunity to preach and teach God's Word, encourage the people, and see firsthand the many ways these ministries were serving those in need.

We witnessed people caring for individuals who were confined to wheelchairs. We also visited a church that was worshiping under a large tree in a desert area. The congregation had been searching for a building for at least seven years. After seeing their situation, we decided that when we returned home to the United States, we would raise funds to build a pavilion that would provide shelter from the intense sun. By God's grace, that pavilion has now been completed.

We also visited ministries caring for starving children affected by wars and civil disturbances in neighboring countries, a school for orphans, and women raising young children without fathers. Each ministry revealed another area of tremendous need and another opportunity to make a difference.

One of the most unforgettable experiences was delivering rice and beans to people living and working in the large garbage dump in Nairobi. We were shocked by the number of people living in such difficult conditions. We distributed food and also had the opportunity to share God's Word with them. Personally, I could hardly wait to leave because of the terrible stench and gases throughout the area, yet seeing the people there and being able to help them was an experience I will never forget.

We also flew due north to the town of Lodwar, to visit a ministry we financially sponsor to provide education for approximately 225 children and serve them one meal each school day. The two schools we help sponsor are doing well; however, the costs of operating and maintaining them are high and often difficult to meet. Nevertheless, God has always been faithful to provide for their needs.

By the end of our trip, our eyes had been opened to the tremendous needs of the people we encountered. We came home with a much greater understanding of the challenges facing these communities and with a renewed appreciation for the impact that food, education, ministry, and the sharing of God's Word can have on people's lives.

We were especially encouraged to see that the food provided through Kids Against Hunger was making such a meaningful difference among the people of Nairobi and in the many ministries serving them. What began as an effort to verify the distribution of food became an unforgettable journey of seeing God at work in the lives of people throughout Kenya.
